Woodcroft
Wonderful Woodcroft
In 2008 thus far there have been 133 residential resale homes sold in the Woodcroft subdivision in Durham NC; with an average sale price of $181,805, this according to the TARR report. Who would have thought in the stressful days when the Durham Public Schools were hammering themselves into one unified system in the mid 1990’s that we’d see this day. There was all sorts of worry about where kids would go to school, what those schools would look like, what achievement would look like and ultimately what would happen to property values. In a word, values have gone up or stayed steady. Good for Woodcroft, good for Durham and good for the Research Triangle.
Built in the mid to late 1980’s Woodcroft was one of Durham, North Carolina’s fist planned unit subdivisions. Like most big neighborhood subdivisions in Durham, Woodcroft had its bumps in the beginning. The neighborhood is characterized by established landscape, walking trails, a divided parkway with median running through the center and Williamsburg styled homes. There is also a nice mix of neighborhood commercial space, daycare centers, hardware store, condominiums, townhouses, apartments and single family homes.
Within the Woodcroft neighborhood home buyers will find 800 square foot one bedroom condominiums and 3000 square foot detached homes. There are homes with garages and without. There are around two thousand properties within the neighborhood. Most have established yards, many have been updated and there is always something available to purchase.
Woodcroft is a walkable neighborhood with miles upon miles of trails and most of the trails lead somewhere, whether it is the Woodcroft swim club, soccer fields, drug stores, Southwest Elementary School or the American Tobacco Trail. On pleasant weekends, afternoons or evenings one is apt to see a good portion of the neighborhood out strolling, biking, in line skating or running. Recently the city of Durham has added a traffic circle at Woodcroft Parkway and Highgate Drive to keep traffic flowing freely.
Another dynamic factor in Woodcroft’s staying power is its location. The neighborhood is adjacent to North Carolina Highway 54 and interstate 40. Woodcroft residents can be at Duke University or Duke Hospital in ten to fifteen minutes, in Research Triangle Park in ten minutes to the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill in fifteen minutes and in north Raleigh in just about fifteen minutes. The neighborhoods proximity to so much in the “Triangle” has helped Woodcroft stay a desirable home destination for so many residents of the greater Research Triangle Region.
